A joyful celebration of  wild hollyhocks springing up from the harsh gravel on the shingle at Aldeburgh.

They virtually sang out to be painted, so I did!

Song from the Shingle captures an exact moment on Crag Path in Aldeburgh. Wild hollyhocks were springing up from the harsh gravel on the shingle at Aldeburgh, singing out to be painted. Depicted in sharp, realistic oils, I wanted to emphasise the geometric lines of the historic South Lookout and adjacent Art House. The architectural precision contrasts against the ebullient energy of the towering wild blooms. By keeping the vast expanse of the shingle beach intentionally minimal and plain, the flowers and landmarks truly take centre stage.
